Michelle Campbell launched her namesake jewelry line in 2011 after inheriting her Grandmother's personal collection. "I wanted to find modern pieces to complement hers, and found there was a huge gap in the market for simple, well-made pieces," explains Campbell. As a recent college graduate, who was spending considerable time in audition rooms, she wanted to do something constructive while waiting around, and so the brand was born. In the eight years that have followed, she has been featured on the pages of Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar and The New York Times, and graced the likes of celebrities Kate Hudson and Beyoncé. And now, she is adding Box of Style to her list of accomplishments with her pair of delicate bangles featured in our Spring 2019 edition.
Box of Style: What inspires your design process?
Michelle Campbell: My goal is to make a modern heirloom, a piece that is not trend based, that can be part of your daily style. My inspiration stems mostly from modern art, architecture and symmetry found in nature. I hope that we speak to a unique woman who knows her voice and endeavors to find creative ways to express herself. I am always impressed by the way our clients mix and style MC product in with their other treasures, speaking to their true personal style. I consider us to be unique because Michelle Campbell was one of the first brands to go in the modern direction, and despite that being a very saturated market today, I am still proud that we were some of the pioneers in that realm!
Box of Style: What brand missions are most important to you?
Michelle Campbell: My goal as a designer is to create without waste, so these products and the rest of my collection is typically made for a specific retailer or person. I used to follow the traditional wholesale model where you make a ton of styles and hope some stick. In an effort to reduce environmental waste and design more consciously, I changed the business model recently. That said, the collection is smaller, but stronger and ultimately more valuable in my eyes. Michelle Campbell is all about women! Inspired by a woman (my grandmother) and executed by a team of strong, intelligent women that none of this would have been possible without. The brand empowers you to make your own choices about mixing and matching and finding and expressing your personal style with timeless pieces. Michelle Campbell: I am excited to be a part of Box of Style because I have a great respect and adoration for Rachel Zoe, her eye and her lovely team.
