How can I decorate for an event without spending an exorbitant amount of money?
“Flowers are key for any event, they are a total game changer. You can get them relatively inexpensively from a farmers market and make your own arrangements. For dinner parties I love mixing and matching different vases and votives throughout the length of a long table to create a cool ambiance.”
I want to throw a dinner party, but I don’t have a large enough formal dining table for all of my guests, any tips?
“I love serving family-style meals, they provide such a relaxed entertaining environment. Personally, I prefer it over formal settings. If the weather cooperates, I like to host a party outside with Missoni blankets and poufs on my lawn to create a comfortable vibe, but if you aren’t in LA you can recreate the look indoors by arranging a few large throw pillows around the coffee table and couch. Let people serve themselves in the kitchen and gather in the living room, just keep drink refills and some candles close by to create a relaxed mood.”
How do you stay present during a party? I always feel like I’m so focused on making sure that everything goes smoothly that I end up missing my own party.
“I always try to prepare everything in advance of my guests’ arrival so I’m not stressed during the event. I love beautiful charcuterie platters, they are easy to prep ahead and pull out of the fridge right before the party. I also make sure I know what I’m going to wear or inevitably I will be trying on 15 different outfits at the last minute. Take advantage of time savers like pre-stacked jewelry so you aren’t mixing and matching your own pieces. Keep your makeup look simple, a bold lash is my go-to with an otherwise neutral look.”
